We all love horses, don’t we? But before you ride a horse it is important to know the “basic horse terminology” so here we go!
Popular Horse terms
MARE – An adult female horse
PONY – A full-grown little horse.
FOAL – A baby horse.
COLT – Male baby horse usually under the age of two years.
LAME – A “lame horse” has an injury that intervenes with its performance or health.
BRIDLE- The headgear used to control a horse which are some buckled straps to which the reins are attached.
GIRTH- a girth is a leather strap attached to the saddle, looped under the horse’s stomach so that the saddle stays still.
REIN- The reins are straps used to control the horse while riding it.
SADDLE-A comfortable seating area for the rider.
HORSESHOE-An iron boot attached to the horse’s hooves via nails.
JOCKEY- One who rides a horse in horse races.
CRUPPER- a leather loop passing under a horse’s tail and buckled to the strap of a saddle to prevent the saddle from sliding forward.
